The old city of Nice

The Beautiful old Nice was born between the hill of the “Castle” and the “Ponchettes” pier. It was built under the direction of the Dukes of Savoy and has remained today almost exactly as Alexandre Dumas had described it over a century ago “an almost Italian town resting on its hills with its sculpted or painted houses and its madonnas at the corner of the streets”

The old Nice is the perfect illustration of the Barocco Art (“art baroque”) with the stucs adorned with gold of its churches, the curved lines of its chapels and gilded decorations of the Lascaris palace. In the maze of the shadowy little streets of this old town, the memory of time is kept thanks to the explosion of colours, scents and tastes, especially the famous local “Socca” chick-pea pie which you must absolutely try with a glass of country wine to discover the soul of Nice (in option).

Nestled between green hills the azur blue Mediterranean Sea, the city is an extraordinary melting pot of influences: Gothic, Greek, Italian, Russian and even Indian. Gaze over the Mont Boron, the Nice “Beverly Hills”, the Orthodox Church, Cimiez with the Franciscain monastery and the Parc de l’Oliveraie, the famous Promenade des Anglais with its Palaces “Belle Epoque”.
